The Wendy Thompson Hut uses a reservation system.

Only online bookings may be made from January 10th to March 18th, 2010.

No telephone bookings can be taken during this period. 

Before attempting an online booking please view the club calendar to the right, looking for blue hut blockings. These will indicate dates that are already completely booked out and avoid unnecessary disappointments. Click on any date you are interested on to see if vacancies exist. For the moment, only fully booked dates will be highlighted.

CANCELLATION POLICY 2009/2010.

The following information has been provided to assist folks in planning their trips to the Wendy Thompson Hut.  Please read it carefully before making a booking for the hut.

Note that the route to the Wendy Thompson Hut, from trailhead on HWY 99N to the hut, is rated as ATES (Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale) CHALLENGING. This means that winter travellers, using the most moderate terrain in the valley bottom and NORMAL CAUTION should be able to navigate to the hut and avoid most avalanche danger when danger is rated MODERATE or lower. When avalanche danger at any level is rated CONSIDERABLE, travellers must be able to exercise EXTRA CAUTION while navigating to the hut. The appropriate Avalanche Bulletin to check is the Canadian Avalanche Centre's South Coast (Duffey Lake) Bulletin. The appropriate bulletin is found here  For the approach to the hut, check the BTL,TL, and ALP rating. While all travel is below treeline, it is always important to know the ratings in the elevations above your travel route because of the CHALLENGING avalanche terrain exposure scale.

Therefore, parties intending to travel to the hut should be prepared to routefind and exercise normal to extra caution in getting to the Wendy Thompson Hut. If the avalanche danger, rated by the CAC for Duffey Lake, rises to HIGH or EXTREME at any elevation, we will understand a party's wish to cancel a trip, but would appreciate notice as early as possible of the group's decision to cancel.

CANCELLATION less than three days before the trip when the CAC bulletin rating is Considerable or lower will result in a refund of 50% of the reservation fees. The aim is not to be punitive, but to allow us time to contact other groups on the waitlist to advise them of vacancies.

If you are uncertain of your abilities to travel in Challenging ATES terrain during periods of Considerable or lower, please keep this cancellation policy in mind before making your reservation.

Please ensure you request a booking before travelling.

To ensure a response to your booking, enquire at least one week in advance. Requests within seven days of a date cannot be guaranteed to be processed normally, and you will not have a booking. This would mean that you might appear at the hut and find that it is full of people with reservations.

Note that an online or telephone request is not a confirmed booking. You will receive an email or telephone call to confirm your booking. Again, we prefer online because the reserver can print the response as evidence of the booking.

While both online and telephone booking are available, online booking is preferred and can be processed more quickly.

Normal maximums for evening bookings are 16 people. An additional four spaces may be provided for Whistler Section members, in particular those undertaking hut maintenance duties at the hut.

Exclusive bookings are not available, but do sometimes occur if a party has sufficient members to fill the 16 positions in the cabin.
